Randy's 50 Ford Woodie Front Suspension
This is the view of my installation of the DC Metal Fabricators front clip with TCI Mustang II control arms and air springs. |
This view shows that my DC rack mount holes are 16". The rack supplied by TCI is 15 1/2". I determined that the cross member was designed for a manual rack. TCI recommended slotting the passenger side mounting hole 1/2" toward the center of the frame. |
This view shows my camber problem. The dimension given in the DC Metal instructions was 29 1/4" from the center of each of the upper control arm slots. I was a bit wide at 29 1/2 to maybe 29 3/4, center to center. |
This shows that with the control arms adjusted all the way toward the center of the car, I am at 29" center to center on the upper control arm mounts yet still had the severe camber problem noted above and below. |
This view of the right side shows the problem with the air springs. The plate on the lower control arm seems to be way to far to the outside of the car. |
The situation is the same on the left. I can force everything into place, but neither the top or the bottom of the air spring will seat completely. |
Finally, I didn't know what these 2 items were. The item on the left is a gusset to brace the lower control arm tube to the cross member. Its design had changed and the line drawing provided by TCI didn't show a part that looked like this. The item on the right was in no instructions I could find. It is a spacer to move the rack toward the front of the car by about 1/2". |
